PinkWashing

Have you heard of “pink-washing”?

Pinkwashing: supporting the breast cancer cause or promoting a pink ribbon product while producing, manufacturing, and/or selling products linked to the disease. In recent years the definition has expanded to include any company or organization that exploits breast cancer for profit or public relations motivations.

Sad, but true!

Examples of Pink-Washing:

– KFC teaming up with Susan G. Komen & selling pink buckets of chicken. Saturated fat can lead to cancer and that high fat consumption in teen girls increases the risk of breast cancer. Ironically, Susan G. Komen’s own website points this out! 🤔

-Cambell’s soup cans adorned with pink ribbons. The cans are lined with BPA, a chemical KNOWN to change the mammary tissue and structure. BPA mimics estrogen and disrupts the hormones in the body. (scratch the head)

-Cosmetics. Many cosmetic companies will slap a pink ribbon on their jar and/or partner with a cancer-research company, like, Susan G. Komen. Majority of these products are loaded with parabens, toluene, petroleum products and more, which are all linked to breast cancer. 😕

-Pink plastic water bottles. Plastic water bottles are made with the known hormone disruptor, BPA (Bishenol-A). Smartwater has polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic bottles, which are just as harmful. Chemicals in PET plastics have the potential to interfere with estrogen and other reproductive hormones, just as BPA and phthalates. 😧

‼️ Breast cancer charities raise an estimated $6 BILLION each year. However, only about 16% of that is spent on research of the disease. That means the other $5 billion is being funneled into other areas, including marketing and more pink products.‼️

Now, I absolutely love the color pink, and I believe awareness, action, and research are incredibly important on this topic! A wonderful resource for making sure your support is going where you intend for it to is www.thinkbeforeyoupink.org

Think Before You Pink®, a project of Breast Cancer ACTION, launched in 2002 in response to the growing concern about the number of pink ribbon products on the market. The campaign calls for more transparency and accountability by companies that take part in breast cancer fundraising, and encourages consumers to ask critical questions about pink ribbon promotions. Breast Cancer Action’s mission is to achieve health justice for all women at risk of and living with breast cancer. 💕

I’m so proud to be partnered with a company that has an official partnership with the Breast Cancer Prevention Partners (BCPP). Yes, breast cancer cure and treatment are very important as well, but this organization is dedicated to the prevention of breast cancer – Something that I feel very passionate about.

Until midnight on Sunday 10/9, we are donating $5 from every purchase of $150+ to the Breast Cancer Prevention Partners plus you get a FREE Plum Kiss lip crayon!

Please help me and BCPP in sharing this knowledge about how important it is to PREVENT breast cancer. You can shop for a cause here: Crunchi.com/jessicaderico/event/33360 –> you will get $10 off and entered to win half priced coupons!

Being a Green Beauty Advocate

You probably don’t know this just from reading this blog, but I actually work from home, full time as a Green Beauty Advocate. I have the honor and privilege of educating other women and helping them reduce their toxic body burden and live their best and healthiest lives. And I get paid for it!

As of just a couple of weeks ago…the company I am blessed to be partnered with has completely redone the starter kits and dropped the price points on them to help women get the financial freedom so many need right now while keeping it affordable enough to start when cash flow is low! I’m SO JEALOUS right now. I wish I could rejoin! (For real…we didn’t even have eyeliner when I joined and I got 3 foundation shades I didn’t wear. We’ve come a long way!)

If you are looking to detox your makeup bag quickly, affordably, and with a brand you can trust – I would suggest picking up one of our enrollment kits!

We’ve had over 1,300 Advocates join us since April 1st! 😍 #jawdropping and I tripled just my team alone during the month of April… Because – HELLO! The momentum is HIGH and escalating quickly! More and more women are seeing the mvalue in this community, our Business Portfolio, and these collections.

Partnering with this company comes with countless benefits, but I want to share just a couple that are closest to my heart:

Revolutionary products: With unprecedented performance, ingredient safety, and eco-conscious packaging, we are setting the new gold standard for clean beauty.

Work from home: Be your own boss, choose the people you work with, control your hours, work around the needs of your family – all from the comfort of your own home.

Make a difference: Education is at the forefront of our mission. Women deserve to know about the potentially harmful products they are using everyday and how they can make healthier choices.

Earn income: By following our Smart Start System, you have the potential to earn back your initial investment & turn a profit in your first month!

Join a supportive community: Our collaborative culture is second to none and fosters personal growth, lifelong friendships, and sisterhood. We are empowering women to grow personally and professionally.

Rise and Thrive 2020

The ✨highlight✨of my year is collaborating with like-minded women who have joined me in the forefront of the clean beauty movement!

And what an absolutely incredible weekend it was.
.
Reflecting on the past few days has me feeling so so blessed.
.
For those of you who don’t know, about a year and a half ago I did something I never thought I would do. I left something I had been building for four years and started completely fresh because I just knew in my heart it was right. Since then it has impacted my life in the biggest of ways; mentally, physically, emotionally, financially.
.
Spending time with the co-founders, learning from a remarkable coach, and stepping into the most confident version of me were just a few of my favorite moments.
.
I’ve never seen or been part of a sisterhood of women who truly support, love each other, and build each other up. Meeting face to face surpassed all my expectations. I knew I would meet a bunch of women, I didn’t know I’d make lifelong friends.
.
I have big goals for 2020 and I’ve never been more fired up. We are going to do HUGE things this year friends and there’s room for you too! The toxin free movement is only getting bigger, come join the conversation in Raising Clean with Jessie Rae 😍!
